RANGE SAFETY RULES

Only Rosebud Members and registered guest may use this Range
Range is restricted to long guns only (barrel no shorter than 16 inches) and is templated for no larger than 338 Lapua magnum as per RCMP range template.
Entrance gate must remain locked at all times unless there is a scheduled formal competition which includes participation by non-Rosebud members.
Gate combination is confidential to Members only.
ALL REFERENCES TO “RANGE” INCLUDE BOTH THE BENCHREST RANGE AND SILHOUETTE RANGE AS IF THEY ARE ONE RANGE.
The First Member entering the Range must:
1. Ensure the range flag is of proper color for range activity.
2. Act as a RANGE SAFETY OFFICER (RSO) until being relieved of the duty by another Member. The Range must be under the responsibility of an acting RSO at all times. All commands by the RSO must be obeyed immediately.
3. Ensure the Firing Line Range Control Flags are in place.
a. The RED flag is to be flown when the Range has been determined safe for firing down range
b. The GREEN flag is to be flown when a cease fire has been called, all firing has ceased, and all firearms are removed from the firing line.
4. Physically check both the Benchrest and Silhouette ranges to ensure the Range is safe for firing down range and raise red flag for firing.
The Last Member leaving the Range must:
1. Verify the Range is vacated and clear of any firearms and ensure the GREEN Range Control flag is raised before departing the Range
Membership Identification must be displayed at all times. If this rule is not complied with you will be asked to leave the Range.
All Members and guests are to sign in immediately upon arriving at the Range. The sign in book is located in a wall mounted box to the right of the Clubhouse door. Members are required to provide DATE, MEMBER #, GUEST NAME, AND GUEST SIGNATURE as appropriate prior to using Range facilities. Bottom portion of guest pass is to be worn in plain view by guest, top portion is to be dropped in the slot below the sign in book. Sponsoring Members are responsible for ensuring their guest has read the Range Safety Rules prior to entering the Range and are fully responsible for their guest at all times while at the Range.
Member number must be used in place of Member name or signature in the sign in book.
Under the new guest pass rules all guests will require a pre-paid pass to be worn at all times while they are on the Range.
A single membership allows the Member to bring one guest per visit. A family membership allows the Member to bring their immediate family i.e. spouse, children under the age of 18, family student Members and one guest per family visit to use the range
A guest is any person that is not a member of the Rosebud Club.
Children and pets must be under direct adult control at all times. A shooter, under the age of 18 and/or adult not in possession of PAL, must be directly supervised ”within arms length” by the sponsoring adult Member.
Persons not Members or sponsored guests using the Range will be charged with trespassing.
All Members are asked to observe, record, and report any incidents of abuse of the Range and rules to the Club Executive. Confidentiality will be maintained.
The Range is primarily for rifles. Shotguns (except shotguns firing slugs) are not allowed on the Benchrest or Silhouette ranges. Shotguns for clay target shooting are only to be shot at the shotgun shooting station located 60 meters from the entrance gate on the north side of the entrance road. Shot sizes allowed are 7 1/2, 8 and 9 target loads only.
SHOTGUN RANGE IS CLOSED ON ALL BENCHREST AND/OR SILHOUETTE MATCH DATES.
HANDGUNS AND RIFLES WITH BARRELS SHORTER THAN 16 INCHES ARE PROHIBITED ON THE ROSEBUD RANGE.
NO CENTER FIRE RIFLE SHOOTING AT SMALL BORE SILHOUETTES TARGETS OR THE SUPPORTING SILHOUETTE RAILS.
NO SHOOTING WITH ANY CALIBRE OTHER THAN .22 RIMFIRE AT SMALL BORE SILHOUETTES. NOTE THAT .17 CALIBRE, MAGNUMS OF ANY CALIBRE AND HYPERVELOCITY ROUNDS ARE PROHIBITED WHEN SHOOTING AT SMALL BORE SILHOUETTE STEEL ANIMAL TARGETS.
ON THE HP SILHOUETTE RANGE NO MAGNUMS ARE ALLOWED AND MUZZLE VELOCITY IS LIMITED TO 3000 FPS WHEN SHOOTING AT STEEL ANIMAL TARGETS. THERE ARE NO LIMITS ON THE STEEL GONGS OTHER THAN THE RANGE LIMITATION TO CALIBRES OF .338 LAPUA OR LESS.
Solid style bullets (such as Barnes solid copper bullets or equivalent) are not allowed to be shot at any silhouette target. ANY AMMUNITION THAT CAUSES DAMAGE TO THE SILHOUETTE TARGETS OR GONGS IS NOT ALLOWED.
Live firing can take place at the same time on the Benchrest and Silhouette ranges. A Cease Fire must be called on both ranges when changing or setting targets on either range. The Range Control Flag applies simultaneously to both ranges -RED flag indicates "DANGER" firing in progress. GREEN indicates a Ceasefire allowing for target changes.
All shooters must shoot from the same firing point as the target frame on which they have their targets mounted i.e. the target on frame 1 is engaged from firing point 1. No cross firing permitted. Bench restrictions at specific distances are in place and signs above the benches directing which benches to be use at specific ranges are to be adhered to.
Handling firearms while under the influence of any controlled or illegal substance is prohibited and any Member doing so will be subject to immediate membership sanctions.
Illegal substances are prohibited at all times on the Club’s leasehold property.
It is recommended that all persons on the range wear hearing and eye protection at all times for their own safety. If you are the first shooter, before shooting, it is only considerate to warn all other shooters to put on their ear muffs.
No shooting is permitted at anything other than paper targets placed on the target boards provided on the Benchrest range. You may shoot paper targets on the Silhouette range if they are placed directly in front of the berm and within 10 feet of the berm. Targets MUST NOT be set up at any intermediate distance between the backstop berms. All targets must be removed upon completion of shooting.
Please note that items such as tin cans, bottles, telephone books, cardboard and clay pigeons are PROHIBITED as targets on the Benchrest and Silhouette ranges. Clay Pigeons and paper patterning targets only are permitted on the shotgun range.
FIREARMS SAFETY RULES
All persons must remain behind the firing line during shooting.
All rifles, when not in use on the firing line, must have either the bolt removed or the action open. Open bolt indicators are recommended.
When loading a firearm the bolt must be FULLY OPEN until the rifle is in a horizontal position with the muzzle pointed down range at the target. Loaded rifles must remain in this position until fired.
Treat every firearm as if it were loaded and keep your finger off the trigger and out of the trigger guard until ready to fire.
Always control the muzzle of your firearm in a safe direction. Never allow the muzzle to point at anyone.
Be sure of your target and beyond. Identify the target, then, look past it to be sure it is safe to shoot.
Keep the action of the firearm open except when actually shooting or when storing an unloaded gun for transport. Unload firearm when not in use. Firearms in the firing line racks or cleaning benches must be UNLOADED WITH ACTION OPEN.
Armor piercing and tracer ammunition are PROHIBITED. All binary targets are prohibited.
At target changes, before anyone goes down range, all firearms must be unloaded with bolts removed or actions open and placed in the racks or on the cleaning benches.
No muzzle velocity limit on the Benchrest range.

GATE PROCEDURES
All gate combinations are confidential and not to be given out to anyone.
All combinations are to be spun off the combination to ensure lock is secured.
Main road gate- Gate is to remain locked by members at all times. Membership card to be worn to proceed through gate.
If gate is locked open by one of the four paddles the left gate you are not required to lock it. If it is swinging in the wind you must lock it and report it to the executive.
Rosebud gate must be Locked at all times. Only executive may leave it unlocked.
Any violation of rules will be grounds for suspension of membership.
